The Rouge program is a female or female identifying program. It was introduced in 2015 to highlight female filmmakers in Australia. It has now become an international program. The SSFF was the first festival in Australia to have a female filmmakers’ program.
To be eligible for screening in the Rouge, a film needs two females (or female identifying) in the following roles: screenwriter, director, producer.
We offer a $500 prize to the best film overall a female director.
This program is supported by WIFT (Vic) who are are involved in judging and host a female filmmaker Q and A during the festival.
