From novice filmmakers to established award winners, students to stars, teenage animators to documentary makers and even an entry from South America, this year’s Setting Sun Short Film Festival has something for everyone who loves short-form cinema.
Finalists have been selected from a record 84 entries ready for the fourth annual festival, to be held at the Sun Theatre in Yarraville April 27 – 30. Entries include quirky comedy, film noir-style fantasy, claymation, documentaries like the iconic westie work Olympic Nick and offerings from many talented women filmmakers eligible for the Rouge program and prize.
And while not every filmmaker is a finalist, many entrants will still screen in one of the festival’s programs and will get to see their creations on the big screen. Finalists for this year’s festival include well-known artists and award-winning films from the western suburbs and beyond.
Festival-goers will see plenty of familiar faces, with cast members including comedians Greg Fleet and Dave O’Neil and well-known actors Jack Charles and Damian Walshe-Howling.
Program and ticket details will be announced over the next few weeks.
